It also happens to be the closest place to Hommlet with shops that sell everything adventurers need, and at decent prices (see also HommletTradingPost).

It is not as cool as GreyHawk (look at the grass if you need proof of this) but it is a lot closer.

You can do the following things in Verbobonc:

• Identify basic magic items for 500 gp per item. This is a budget identification service which may not reveal everything about an item (eg, command-words, or super-special abilities). It's very good at saying that something is a Sword +1, or a Chain Mail +3.
• Get most clerical and magic-user spells cast, for a fee. RaiseDead starts at 5,500 gp in cost, provided the corpse only died within 9 days. A cure disease costs 1,000 gp.
• Buy any item listed in the PHB at list-price.
• Sell items and treasure which you may not have been able to sell in Hommlet. You could even get a better price.
• Recruit hirelings and henchpersons.
• GainingLevels. Verbobonc is the nearest place that you can reasonably do this.
