What is ToEE?

ToEE is short for TempleOfElementalEvil, an Advanced Dungeons and Dragons adventure written by GaryGygax. Originally created for the 1st Edition of AD&D, it's been updated for later versions, and has since been made into a computer game.

What's this site got to do with ToEE?

This is a site for the players and DM of a particular face-to-face ToEE game that is run in Melbourne, Australia, using the original 1st Ed ToEE game, and 1st Ed AD&D rules. As an access restricted wiki, only people involved in the game are able to update and maintain these pages.

Why does this site exist?

Primarily as an easy way of collecting and organising information for the game. A wiki makes it easy for information to be updated and maintained, and means that CharacterProfiles, Party Information, and other useful information doesn't get lost. While originally designed exclusively for the players of the game, a public mirror of the site also exists for visitors who are interested.

Most importantly, as our players include Lawyers, Bankers, and Software Engineers, they have a psychological need to produce huge amounts of documentation. The DungeoneeringManagementPlan is an example of just how seriously some people will take a casual role-playing game.

Why 1st Ed?

Nostalgia. Many of our players began with 1st Ed AD&D, often in primary school or high-school. 1st Ed has some pretty arbitary, and sometimes contradictary rules, and by far most of them are being adhered to. It also has week character development, which is a good thing, as it tends to be very easy for characters to die.

The real reason is that the DM started playing 1st Ed AD&D in primary school (some 20 years ago now), and never learnt 'that new fangled 2nd Ed', let alone anything more modern.

What are the best parts of this site?

By far, the best part are the CharacterDiaries, which are written by our talented players, and quite amusing. You can also browse the list of all pages as a useful index if you're looking for something in particular.

Grugg's Bag o' Meat is just strange, but is interactive in a very passive sort of way.

I want to play too!

Sorry, the game already has nine players, and the scenario was only designed for six. There have already been logistical difficulties in accomodating all the characters in the adventure, and all the players in the lounge room.

I have another question. How can I ask it?
